JBK Research
An independent research practice.
Consultant-quality research at the speed and scope of a small team.
What this is
JBK Research is the consulting practice I run alongside my writing and personal projects. Most engagements are with founders, investors, and operators who need rigorous, defensible research on a specific question — and who'd rather not spin up a six-figure consulting project to get it.
What I tend to work on
- Market and competitive intelligence — sizing, landscape mapping, strategic positioning
- Industry deep-dives — investor education, sector primers, thematic research
- Strategic research projects — multi-phase work on specific decisions, often with primary research
- Ongoing research support — retainer arrangements with operators and investment teams
How I work
- Scope. Start with the actual business question, the decision it informs, and what success looks like.
- Research. Systematic data collection from public filings, industry sources, expert perspectives, and proprietary analysis.
- Synthesize. Connect dots across sources to surface insights that aren't obvious from any one data point.
- Deliver. Clear, actionable findings in a format ready for the audience that's going to act on them.
What I bring
Penn '24 (Philosophy & Biology), prior work in political data analytics at Applecart, consulting projects through Wharton, and a growing portfolio of independent research engagements across markets, AI, and urban policy. I work AI-natively but ship human-quality work — citations are real, recommendations are defensible, and the analysis is mine.
If you have a question you'd like researched, tell me about it.
